There have been only minor format adjustments for the 2010 Twenty20 World Cup. The tournament will once again feature four groups of three during the group stages, with the top two in each group progressing to a Super 8s stage of the tournament.
The Super 8s stage of the 2010 T20 World Cup will see the eight remaining teams divided into two groups of four. The groups will then host a series of round robin matches. The top two teams in each group will qualify for the semifinal at the culmination of the Super 8s stage of the 2010 T20 World Cup.
The two semifinals will be contested on consecutive days, and the finalists will then have a day’s break before contesting the final of the 2010 Twenty20 World Cup in Barbadoes.
The Super Over format will be used again in 2010 to decide the winner in the event of a tied match. This tiebreaker will see each team given an over and 3 wickets to reach the highest possible score. The team finishing with the higher score at the conclusion of the super overs will win the match.
