2009 Twenty20 World Cup
The Twenty20 Cricket World Cup is the showpiece tournament for cricket’s abbreviated format.
Whilst not yet regarded as being equal to the Cricket World Cup in prestige, the Twenty20 World Cup appears to be destined to eclipse the older tournament in the popularity stakes, as the shortened format is being enthusiastically received by all the cricket-playing nations.

England 2009
After the successful inaugural Twenty20 World Cup in South Africa in 2007, the ICC made the decision to hold the event every two years, and selected England as the host for the 2009 Twenty20 World Cup. The 2009 edition of the tournament will not have many changes to the format used in 2007, with the exception of changes to tie breaker rules.
12 teams will participate in the 2009 Twenty20 World Cup, including the 9 test playing nations, and ICC Associate members Ireland, Scotland and the Netherlands, who qualified via the 2009 ICC World Twenty20 Qualifier tournament.
Three English stadiums will be used to host 2009 Twenty20 World Cup matches, with Lords scheduled to host the opening ceremony and the final, whilst Trent Bridge and the Oval will host the semifinals of the tournament. The tournament is scheduled to begin on the 11th of June 2009 and to conclude on the 21st of June.

The final proved to be a fitting climax for the tournament, as India bowled Pakistan out, 5 runs short of victory.
