The South Korean football team has been Asia’s top performer over recent decades, and qualified for its 7th consecutive World Cup appearance by topping Group B in the AFC Fourth Qualifying Round in 2009.
While South Korea’s form in qualifying was impressive, the team has been short of exposure to top level non-Asian opponents, with the majority of its victories scored over teams from the AFC.
Many will regard the team’s comprehensive 3-1 thrashing of Group A winner Australia as a sign of things to come, but more tests against top teams from Europe and South America will be required to gauge whether this team has what it takes to make the final stages of the 2010 Football World Cup.
Nickname: Taegeuk Warriors
Coach: Huh Jung-Moo
Confederation: AFC
Best World Cup Performance: 4th place (2002)
Highest FIFA Ranking: 17
Key Players: Park Chu-Young, Park Ji-Sung
Considering their recent record, the South Koreans looks to be amongst the most under-valued teams on the Football World Cup antepost betting markets. The Asian team is trading well over 200/1 at most bookmakers. This value once again suggests that this is a team worth trading by backing them with a small stake now, and laying them later in the tournament.
