Algeria secured its place at the 2010 Football World Cup by topping one of the toughest qualifying groups in the CAF region. The North African country lost just one match during qualifying, losing an away fixture to African champions, Egypt.
The Algerian football team has also produced good results in friendlies, defeating a number of tough contenders, including CONMEBOL qualifiers, Uruguay. 2010 will mark Algeria’s third appearance in a Football World Cup, and the team appears to have the potential to move beyond the group stages for the first time in its history.
Nickname: The Desert Foxes
Coach: Rabah Saadane
Confederation: CAF
Best World Cup Performance: First Round (1982, 1986)
Highest FIFA Ranking: 29
Key Players: Karim Ziani, Rafik Djebbour
Algeria has been priced as a rank outsider in the outright World Cup betting markets, at prices of well over 200/1. Any slight hint of a good performance is therefore likely to see a decline in these odds that could offer good value on trading.
If you’re betting on matches featuring Algeria at the 2010 Football World Cup, expect most scores to fall beneath the 2 goal margin, with Algerian victories tending to be by small margins. This team is untested against many international opponents, and could therefore offer good value on match bets.
