Loftus Versfeld Stadium is a 52,000 capacity all-seater stadium located in Pretoria and a venue for the 2010 Football World Cup. The stadium is named after the founder of organised sports in the city, one Robert Owen Loftus Versefeld. Loftus Versfeld has traditionally used as a home venue for the Blue Bulls rugby union franchise, but has also hosted football matches for clubs in the Gauteng region.
Loftus Versfeld has been upgraded to host 2010 Football World Cup matches, with improvements to the stadium roof, hospitality suites and the stadium sound system. The modest refurbishments required at the stadium in preparation for the 2010 Football World Cup made it the first stadium to reach full preparedness for the tournament.
2010 Football World Cup Matches
Loftus Versfeld will host 5 group stage matches and 1 second round match during the 2010 Football World Cup. The stadium is the only venue in the immediate vicinity of Pretoria that will be used to host 2010 Football World Cup matches. The stadium is centrally located in the city of Pretoria and is easily accessed via public transport routes as well as private transport.
