The Cape Town Stadium in Cape Town is a $285 million venue constructed specifically for hosting 2010 Football World Cup matches. The new 68,000 capacity stadium is built on the site of the Old Green Point Stadium and is positioned in close proximity to Cape Town’s central business district, as well as the Victoria and Alfred Waterfront – a local tourism hub equipped with dozens of restaurants and bars.
The Cape Town Stadium, which some have labeled the African Renaissance Stadium, is destined to be one of the most advanced football stadiums in the world, and will feature dozens of innovative design features, including special acoustic and light-reflecting properties that will enhance spectators experience of watching World Cup Football.
The Cape Town Stadium will be operated by the same company that runs the Stade de France in Paris.
