2010 Football World Cup Tickets
The ticket prices for the 2010 Football World Cup have been finalised by FIFA and the South African Local Organising Committee. Football fans will be pleased to hear that ticket prices have not increased substantially since the 2006 Football World Cup in Germany, with prices increasing on average by $136 to $139.
The tickets for 2010 Football World Cup matches come in four categories. The cheapest of these, category 4 tickets, will be sold for as little as $20 – almost 50% cheaper than category 4 tickets at the 2006 Football World Cup. Ticket prices for the 2010 Football World Cup final reflect the final’s status as the world’s premier sporting event, with these tickets going for an average of $900.
Tickets for Africa
Around 15% of the ticket inventory for the 2010 Football World Cup will be made available solely to South African residents as category 4 tickets, some at only $20 each, giving locals the opportunity to watch World Cup football live. An additional charitable ticket fund will be created, offering 120,000 category 4 tickets to less privileged South African residents free of charge.
When and Where to Buy
The first phase of ticket sales for the 2010 Football World Cup will get underway in February 2009. Each qualifying football association will be offered 12% of the available tickets for each of its group stage matches. Teams progressing to the knockout rounds of the 2010 Football World Cup will be allocated 8% of the available tickets for each of their appearances.
Category 1,2 and 3 tickets will be sold both in South Africa and abroad. These tickets will be distributed by associations participating in the event, online ticket vendors and subsidiaries of FIFA. All ticket sales will be in US dollars excepting category 4 tickets, which can be purchased by South Africans in South African rands.
