Sic Bo Casino Game

Sic Bo is an Oriental dice game that was popularized in the United States by Chinese immigrants. The betting structure of the game bears many similarities to the game of Roulette, with players able to place bets on dice totals equaling specific values or falling between certain margins.

Playing Casino Sic Bo for Beginners

A Sic Bo game begins with players putting bets on possible outcomes of the roll of the Sic Bo dice. Much like craps and roulette, a player will put small bets on various possible outcomes, looking to hedge bets or guarantee a profit if any of these bets wins.

The Sic Bo table is marked out with squares describing the various possible outcomes of the roll of the dice, as well as possible dice combinations or margins for the combined value of the dice. Once bets have been played the dice are rolled and bets are paid out according to dice value.

Sic Bo Rules and Betting

Betting in Sic Bo involves betting money on the different squares on the table in the hopes of generating a payout once the dice have been rolled. Odds for payouts are determined by how likely a combination or number is to appear once the dice have been rolled.

Small/Big Bet:

‘Small bets’ pay out on totals of 4 to 10 while ‘big bets’ pay out on totals of 11 to 17. If the three dice have the same value both types of bets lose. These bets pay out at 1/1.

Number Bet:

Number bets allow players to bet on a specific number appearing on at least one of the dice. Number bets pay out at higher odds if the number appears on more than one of the dice, with one number paying 1/1, two paying 2/1 and the same number on all three dice paying 3/1.

Pair Bet:

The 15 possible combinations of any two dice are clearly marked out on the Sic Bo table. Players can be on these combinations by placing money on the relevant square on the table. This bet pays out at 5/1, allowing gamers to place up to 4 pair bets per game.

Total Bet:

Total bets pay out at the highest odds. These bets are placed on the total of the three dice equaling any value from 4 to 17 (bets on 3 and 18 are excluded). The payout on these bets is determined by the total of the three dice. Generally, bets on very low or very high totals pay out at the best odds.

Double Bet:

Double bets are a variation on pair bets. This Sic Bo betting option allows players to bet on a specific double (for example: two 3s, two 4s) coming up after the dice are rolled. Successful bets are paid out at odds of 10/1.

Triple Bet:

Triple bets pay out the highest odds of any Sic Bo bet. This bet involves betting on one number to appear on all three dice. Should the selected triple come up on the dice this bet will return a payout of 180/1 on the bet.

Any Triple:

The likelihood of a specific triple appearing on the dice is, of course, highly unlikely. Players therefore also have the option of betting on ‘any triple’ appearing on the dice. Bets on any triple still pay out at very generous odds, with successful bets returned at odds of 30/1.

Basic Sic Bo Strategy

The Sic Bo casino game, like the games of craps and roulette, can inspire a number of different strategies. The game offers numerous betting options covering a wide array of bets, thereby allowing players to cover a variety of possible outcomes of the roll of the dice in the hopes of generating a return.

Generally, betting on a single outcome in the game of Sic Bo is inadvisable, unless the player is betting on the ‘big bet/small bet’ squares – which is equivalent to betting on a coin toss. Instead, skilled players will look to place a number of small stakes bets on some of the squares that generate large returns, such as the ‘any triple’ square.

They will then look to cover these bets with larger bets on lower odds outcomes of the roll of the dice, for example placing a series of bets on the ‘number’ or ‘pair’ boxes. Ideally, bets should be placed in such a way that each one will generate a return if the results of the dice roll fall within a specific range.

For example:

A bet can be placed on ‘6’ in the numbers box. Double ‘six’ in the doubles boxes and totals of ‘14’, ‘15’ and ‘17’. If the result of the roll of the dice produces two sixes and a three, the bet will pay out 2/1 on the first bet, 10/1 on the second bet and 12/1 on the third bet. The hedge bets on totals of ‘15’ and ‘17’ will be forfeited, but are easily covered by the returns on the bet on ‘14’.
