Ian Poulter was forced to pull out of the Singapore Open last week because someone had stolen his driver after the HSBC in China! The dismayed Brit will be hoping for good fortune this week when he takes on the cream of the Japan Golf Tour.
Poulter is defending his title in Miyazaki and joins a field brimming with local talent. Other internationals contesting the Dunlop Phoenix Masters are South Africa’s Ernie Els, who seems to be in reasonable touch at the moment, Germany’s young gun, Martin Kaymer, tipped to take a major someday soon and Ryder Cup man, Henrik Stenson.
Since 2004 when Tiger Woods claimed his first title at the Phoenix Country Club, the event has been dominated by international golfers with Woods claiming a back-to-back victory in 2005, followed by Ireland’s Padraig Harrington in 2006 and Poulter a year later.
Online bookmaker, StanJames, is offering a comfortable selection of betting options on the tournament in Japan including who will lead after the first round, top 10 finish and whether there will be a playoff. Current odds on the outright win are Ernie Els 11/1, Shingo Katayama 9/1, Martin Kaymer 12/1, Ian Poulter 12/1 and Henrik Stenson 14/1.
The Hong Kong Open has been testing the top golfers of both the Asian and European Tours for half a century and some pretty big names have snapped up the title in Fanling. Greg Norman, Ian Woosnam, Bernhard Langer and Tom Watson have all added the elite Asian Tour title to their career resumes.
This year, however, the local giants of the game are hoping to break the twenty-year title duck with the number one Chinese golfer, Liang Wenchong, together with the first Chinese to win a European Tour event, Zhang Lianwei, leading the attack.
Other Asian Tour stars include Singapore Open hero, Jeev Milkha Singh and Thailand’s Thongchai Jaidee, who must be kicking himself after a dismal final round in Singapore that effectively cost him the title.
South Africa’s Rory Sabbatini, who has had a good year on the PGA Tour, will be making his debut and is joining a strong field including defending champion, Miguel Angel Jimenez, losing Ryder Cup captain, Nick Faldo and his charge, Graeme McDowell, Scotland’s Colin Montgomerie, Germany’s pride and joy, Bernhard Langer and the bad boy of the greens, John Daly.
Leading Irish sports bookmaker, Paddy Power, is offering odds on 72 hole handicap betting, big 7 versus the field and outright betting. Current odds on a win are Graeme McDowell 16-1, Miguel Angel Jimenez 18-1, Rory McIlroy 20-1 and Jeev Milkha Singh 20-1.

Ireland’s pride and joy, Padraig Harrington, will play his final competition of the season in Singapore this week and the current world number 5 is determined to end it on a high.
The double grand slam winner will have his work cut out for him though, as some of the most seasoned golf combatants will be out on the Serapong Golf Course in an attempt to derail his final charge!
The annual Singapore Open kicks off tomorrow and some of the finest of both the PGA and European Tours will be out to claim a slice of the $5 million prize fund.
Two time winner, Adam Scott, America’s Phil Mickelson, Ryder Cup men, Ian Poulter and Oliver Wilson and rookie, Rory McIlroy will all be part of the illustrious field to claim the kudos of the Asian Tour.
The one man who could arguably give Harrington a bit of stick in the absence of Sergio Garcia, who has opted to rest, is South Africa’s Ernie Els. He claimed a much needed win in Morocco on Sunday and looks to be back to full strength and confidence.
Ireland’s leading bookmaker, boylesports, has an array on betting options on the Singapore Open including 1st round leader, top 5 finish and whether there will be a playoff. Odds on the tournament winner are currently Phil Mickelson 13/2, Padraig Harrington 8/1, Adam Scott 8/1 and Ernie Els 12/1.

In-form Spaniard, Gonzalo Fernandez-Castano, will be the man to watch when he leads out a field chock-a-block with local hopefuls at the first Madrid Masters to be hosted by the European Tour.
He will be gunning for a fifth European Tour title and if successful he will be the first Spaniard since 1960 to win at the Club de Campo Villa de Madrid - venue of eight Spanish Opens and 4 Madrid Opens!
Fernandez-Castano silenced his detractors a fortnight ago when he claimed the British Masters at the Belfry in a playoff against the man currently third on the European Tour Order of Merit, England’s Lee Westwood. Fortunately many of the top ranked tour men have opted to rest before the richer Portugal Masters next week, so the 27-year-old will feel he has a real chance of pocketing a healthy slice of the Euro 1 million prize fund.
He will be up against consummate countrymen Jose Maria Olazabal and Miguel Angel Jimenez but the men who may just prove to be a test too far are US Open champion, Angel Cabrera and one of the most talented young men currently on the pro circuit, Germany’s Martin Kaymer.
Sports bookmaker, Betfred, is offering an attractive range of betting options on the inaugural Madrid Masters including place betting, 1st round leader, 72-hole matches, the top European player and the top British or Irish player. Current odds on the match are Miguel Angel Jimenez 10/1, Martin Kaymer 10/1, Angel Cabrera 12/1 and Gonzalo Fernandez-Castano 25/1.

There will be an entire posse of professionals out on three of the greatest links courses in the world this week vying for the honours and a slice of the $5 million prize fund.
Top gun, Padraig Harrington, will be back on European soil for the first time since he clinched the second of his two grand slams - the USPGA Championship and he will be joined by the vast majority of his Ryder cup team mates.
Apart from the usual stroke play competition there will also be teams of two - one pro and an amateur - to play each of the three courses - St Andrews, Carnoustie and Kingbarns - in rotation over the first three days.
Leaders in the entertainment and business sector, including Hugh Grant and Samuel L Jackson, will be out showing their muscle, so it’s a given the fairer sex will be out in their masses in Scotland too this week-end!
Apart from the formidable Ryder Cup caps, the field includes seasoned campaigners Retief Goosen, Ernie Els, Darren Clarke and 2005 winner, Colin Montgomerie as well as a fistful of the younger set - Martin Kaymer, Ross Fisher, Gregory Havret and Rory McIlroy!
Sports bookmaker, ladbrokes, is sticking with the tried and tested and are currently offering the following odds on the outcome of the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship - Ernie Els 12/1, Padriag Harrington 12/1, Henrik Stenson 16/1, Justin Rose 16/1, Lee Westwood 16/1 and Robert Karlsson 16/1.
