The Caulfield Thousand Guineas is modelled on the English 1,000 Guineas. Like the English Classic, the Caulfield Thousand Guineas is run over a distance of 1 mile, with entry restricted to 3 year old thoroughbred fillies. The race is probably Australia’s most prestigious set-weight event for 3 year old fillies.
The Thousand Guineas is run annually at Caulfield Racecourse near Melbourne. The race is run on the Wednesday after the running of the Caulfield Guineas, as part of the Caulfield Racing Carnival. The inaugural Caulfield Thousand Guineas was run in 1946. The race was originally rated as a Principle race, before being granted group one status in 1979.
