Salisbury Racecourse
Races have been held on the downs of Wiltshire since the early 1600s. With racing facilities established at Salisbury in the 17th century, Salisbury racecourse is recognised as one of the oldest racecourses in the United Kingdom. Queen Elizabeth I is rumoured to have once raced on the Salisbury downs. At present Salisbury racecourse is a popular flat racing venue with day and evening racing held throughout the summer months.
Salisbury Racecourse comprises a right-handed 1 mile course with a loop for races over 1 mile 2 furlongs. The 7 furlong run-in is uphill and low numbers tend to do well when the going is soft.
