Cartmel Racecourse, situated in the picturesque Lake District was the scene of the infamous Gay Future scandal in 1974. The Cartmel Racecourse is famous for hosting big races on bank holidays, drawing on the tourist influx into the region.

Cartmel Racecourse is a dedicated national hunt racing venue. The national hunt circuit is a 1 mile left-handed oval with a 4 furlong run in crossing the centre of the course. The Cartmel Racecourse is known for sharp turns and an irregular, undulating surface.
