The Toray Pan Pacific Open is the biggest women’s tennis tournament in Japan, and a Tier I event on the WTA Tour. The Toray Pan Pacific Open is played annually in September on hard court, at Ariake Stadium in Tokyo.
The Toray Pan Pacific Open was first played in 1984. The event started off on indoor carpet courts before being moved onto hard court in 2008. The Toray Pan Pacific Open features one of the smaller fields in the WTA Tier I series, with only 36 qualifiers competing for $1,34 million in prize money.
