ATP Rome Masters

The Rome Masters is the fourth stop on the ATP Tours Masters Series. The event, played on clay in Rome, is recognised as the one of the most prestigious clay court tournaments in the world.

The Rome Masters is played annually at the Foro Italico in Rome. The tournament draws a field of top ranked ATP players and offers the Masters standard prize fund of $2,45 million. The event is one of the oldest tournaments on the ATP tour and predates the Second World War.

Rome Masters History

The first Rome Masters was played in Milan in 1930. Four years later it was moved to the legendary Foro Italico in Rome, before going dormant for the duration of the Second World War. It took over a decade to resurrect the Rome Open, with the tournament finally dusted off in 1950.

The Rome Masters attracted international fields throughout its history, with Italian players only managing to win their own tennis championship intermittently. In 1962, Australian tennis legend Rod Laver made his first appearance at the Rome Masters, elevating the profile of the tournament.

By the 1970s the Rome Masters had evolved into an important fixture on the newly formed professional tennis tour circuit. Several legendary players won the tournament during this period, including Bjorn Borg and Rod Laver.

Rome Masters Betting

The Rome Masters is played as part of a packed clay court schedule that tends to focus attention on the upcoming French Open. However, the tournament still manages to inspire a good selection of tennis betting options from bookmakers, and punters will be able to take advantage of all the most popular tennis betting options.

Because the Rome Masters takes place as part of a packed clay court fixture list, punters can place a variety of accumulator bets on these events. As only a handful of players tend to perform well on the clay courts of Europe every season, these accumulator bets can be more reliable than those found in other sports and can generate excellent odds.

Rome Masters Winners

The record for most Rome Masters winners titles won was set by Jaroslav Drobny in the 1950s, when he took three Rome Masters winners titles. Australias Marty Mulligan later equaled this tally in the 1970s, before Rafael Nadal became the third player to take three successive Rome Masters winners titles between 2005 and 2007.
