The Snooker Masters is the most prestigious non-ranking tournament contested by professional snooker players in the United Kingdom. The event attracts the best snooker players in the world, and offers the biggest prize fund of any snooker tournament other than the Snooker World Championship.
The Snooker Masters was first played in 1975 as an invitational event for the biggest names in the game. The present tournament structure allows for the top 16 players in the league to receive automatic qualification, while the remaining participants are decided by a qualifying tournament and by invitation.
