Aon Chase

The Aon Chase is one of the most important stepping stones on the route to the Cheltenham Gold Cup. The race tends to feature relatively small fields, along with one or two of the season’s serious contenders for the Gold Cup title.

The Aon Chase is run over a distance of 3 miles over Newbury racecourse. The race carries a Grade 2 rating, but tends to attract horses with Grade 1 experience of aspirations. The race was first run in 2000, and during its short history the winner has twice gone on to win the Cheltenham Gold Cup.

Aon Chase Betting

Trainer: Paul Nicholls has virtually made the Aon Chase his own, training five winners.

Aon Chase Betting Tips

If a serious Gold Cup contender is in the mix, look for a straight back bet. There is likely to be decent place bet value on the lower rated horses that make up the field.

Aon Chase Winners

While the Aon Chase has only been around for a decade it has already produced some distinguished winners. 2007 Aon Chase winner, Kauto Star, won the race before going on to win his first Cheltenham Gold Cup title.

Kauto Star’s stablemate, Denman, then emulated this feat in 2008, winning the Aon Chase before upsetting Kauto Star at the 2008 Cheltenham Gold Cup.
