The WGC-Accenture Match Play Championship is a knockout tournament, and the first of three World Golf Championships contested annually by members of the PGA and European PGA tours.

The WGC-Accenture Match Play Championship is played over 5 days and 6 rounds, with play beginning on a Wednesday, and the final contested on the Sunday. All the matches are over 18 holes, with the exception of the final, which is played over 36 holes. The winner of the WGC-Accenture Match Play Championship pockets $1.35 million in prize money.
WGC-Accenture Match Play Championship History
The World Golf Championships were conceived in 1996 by the International Federation of PGA Tours, who planned the tournaments as party of a strategy to create competitive structures accessible to golfers around the world, while still protecting the strength and tradition of member tours.
Since being founded in 1999, the WGC-Accenture Match Play Championship has been hosted every February by the La Costa Resort and Spa in California, barring the 2001 season when it was contested at the Melbourne Country Club in Australia.
