The Alfred Dunhill Championship is one of three golf tournaments in South Africa co-sanctioned by the European PGA Tour and the domestic Sunshine Tour. The tournament forms part of the European Order of Merit.
Played in December of each year, the Alfred Dunhill Championship is hosted at Leopard Creek Golf Club in Mpumalanga, South Africa. The quality of the field tends to vary, although at least a few of the best South African golfers on the European tour take the trouble to travel to the tournament every year. The Alfred Dunhill Championship offers a purse of €1 million.
Alfred Dunhill Championship History
The Alfred Dunhill Championship is the successor to the South African PGA Championship. This tournament was co-sponsored by Dunhill between 1995 and 1999, before the decision was made to set up a separate tournament with Dunhill as the sole sponsor.
The first Alfred Dunhill Championship was played in 2000 at Leopard Creek Golf Course. The inaugural tournament was won by Anthony Wall, who started a trend of debutants winning the event. The new tournament caused the SAPGA Championship to be dropped from the European Tour schedule.
Alfred Dunhill Championship Betting
While the Alfred Dunhill Championship is not a high profile event, and does not attract the types of betting markets that are available for the Majors or World Golf Championships, the event does offer a decent selection of the more popular golf betting opportunities.
The Alfred Dunhill Championship also allows punters to place money on some of the less well know golfers on the European tour, an approach that can pay dividends given the number of long-odds players who have managed to capture this title during the past decade.

Alfred Dunhill Championship Winners
No player on the European tour has managed to win the Alfred Dunhill Championship twice. Some of the better known winners include Ernie Els, Adam Scott and Justin Rose. In recent years a succession of more obscure golfing names have claimed the Alfred Dunhill Championship winners title, including John Bickerton, Alvaro Quiros and local player Charl Schwartzel.
