Italian Serie B

Serie B is Italy’s second tier professional football league. The league features 22 clubs participating in a round robin home and away league competition. The two top ranked clubs at the conclusion of the season are promoted to the Serie A, along with the winner of a playoff between the clubs ranked 3rd to 6th.

The Serie B was founded in 1929 to allow clubs from outside Italy’s elite to contest a championship. The clubs participating in this league are often referred to as the Cadetti or ‘juniors’, and tend to come from some of Italy’s smaller towns and urban centers. The Serie B champions win the Ali della Vittoria trophy.
