Are Americans really ready for a Black President?

Well, well, well – the winds of change are howling a gale in world politics at the moment and this year has to be a watershed year that will surely go down in the annals of American history for future generations to either marvel or scoff at!

Democrats have already been shaken out of their reverie by having to choose between a woman and a black man as their preferred candidate for the upcoming elections, and their decision must have left a whole lot of voters out there feeling a tad uncomfortable.

Assassination always a possibility!

Neither option would have gone down all that well with a large majority of the population and even Hilary Clinton, the Democrat candidate who lost out to the charm of Barack Obama, has intimated he will be assassinated if elected, purely because America is frankly not yet ready to embrace a black man as their leader. Remember, the last President successfully assassinated in the US was JF Kennedy, the first Roman Catholic President to preside over the States!

This election is really a contest between the hawks and the doves and if we look at public sentiment surrounding the continued presence of US troops in Iraq, it should be a foregone conclusion that Barack Obama and the Democrats come away with the ultimate prize – the Presidency!

Pets improve Prospective President’s image

Recent media reports, however, indicate McCain is gaining in popularity and one of the reasons is his propensity for pets – Americans are of the view that a President who loves animals is more trust worthy and this has prompted arch rival, Obama, to purchase a puppy to improve his image!!

Americans, however, are strange animals, they seldom do what is expected of them and this year’s election will not be any different – they voted George Bush in for a second term, that quite candidly, has to be considered a touch of madness and odds are they opt for the devil they know in the form of John McCain, instead of embracing change and Obama!

Current betting odds do not reflect this sentiment and most bookmakers have Obama as the hot favourite to win in Washington in November but whether this is simply wishful thinking will soon be revealed at the polls.

Emerald Isle Election Odds

It’s not only Stateside that voters are getting their knickers in a knot, things are hotting up on the Emerald Isle too! Voters will soon have to decide on the next Irish President and believe it or not Bertie Ahern, the former Prime Minister who resigned in April due to allegations of financial irregularities, is the favourite at 2-1 at Paddy Power bookmakers!
