[[six nations]]Gambling Guru will be with you all the way through the 2008 Six Nations tournament, guiding you through 2008 Six Nations betting and making the best of the excellent 2008 Six Nations odds. To whet your appetite we’ve compiled a short tournament preview of the 2008 Six Nations contenders (with a few 2008 Six Nations betting hints thrown in for good measure).
France
16 times tournament winners are the favourites to win the 2008 Six Nations. Following a disappointing finish to the 2007 Rugby World Cup, France are still regarded as the team to beat with in-form players like Thierry Dusautoir, Vincent Clerc and Sebastien Chabal currently ranked as the top players in the world in their respective positions.
William Hill have priced France at 6/4 Six Nations betting odds.
England
With 25 outright wins in the tournament, and a silver medal at the 2007 Rugby World Cup, England are in with a real chance at the 2008 Six Nations. However questions linger over their ability to perform at their peak given the loss of a generation of great players, including the likes of mercurial fullback Jason Robinson. They’ll need to beat France to stake a real claim for the title. BLUESQ have England at 2/1 Six Nations odds to lift the trophy for the 26th time.
Ireland
Following a disappointing World Cup campaign, Ireland’s fans will be wondering if Ireland’s ‘golden generation’ will finally claim a major title. Ireland have finished as runners-up in five of the last six tournaments, and with a settled squad based on the excellent Munster side have the depth and talent to win their 11th title. Top Irish bookmaker Paddy Power has priced Ireland’s chances at 9/2 Six Nations odds.
Wales
Wales have experienced a major dip in form since taking a heroic Grand Slam in 2005. Star centre Gavin Henson has spent more time in court than on the field, and the side has been unable to settle on a half-back pairing – one the side’s traditional strengths. Nevertheless Wales are never short of flair and enterprise and are always a threat at home. Ladbrokes is dangling juicy 8/1 Six Nations odds on Wales taking the 2008 Six Nations – a tough offer to ignore.
Scotland
Scottish rugby hit rock bottom in 2007 as it lost a club franchise, was bumped out of the World Cup in the quarterfinals, and saw crowds dwindle at important games. Fortunately Scotland’s remaining two franchises bounced back in the Heineken Cup and Magner’s League and it looks like Frank Hadden now has real talent and depth to draw on. Expect Scotland to cause a few upsets. Boylesports have given Scotland 2008 Six Nations betting odds of 12/1.
Italy
Watch out for Italy at the 2008 Six Nations. A missed penalty kick was all that stood between Italy reaching its first World Cup quarter final in 2007. Rugby is growing in popularity in Italy and the squad now boasts serious talent in the back-line and loose forwards. With record breaking South African coach Nick Mallet at the helm, the Azzurri won’t be taking home the wooden spoon. Betfred has offered Six Nations betting odds of 66/1 on the Italians winning their first tournament.
