With Tiger Woods back in the majors fray this year, bookmakers are predictably backing the feisty American to take the Open Championship for the fourth time.
One element, apart from the sheer thrill of claiming yet another grand slam title, that may motivate the world number one even more, is the fact he is one majors title adrift of his big mate on the ATP Tour, Roger Federer!
The two have a friendly grand slam contest on the go and with Federer’s legendary win at Wimbledon the other day, Woods is sure to make his move at Turnberry this week in a bid to equal the Maestro.
Paddy Power has a range of betting markets on the Open Championship including outright betting but punters may find ‘Betting without Tiger Woods’ a more lucrative option.
Sergio Garcia, at 16/1, heads the list of possible winners, without Woods in contention, but there are a handful of other golfers in with a shout too including Martin Kaymer (25/1), the man who has claimed consecutive European Tour titles in the past fortnight, Rory McIlroy (20/1), who has the sublime skill to pull off a big one any day of the week and Briton, Lee Westwood (22/1), a man clearly in form.
At the end of the day, it will be the golfer who can drive straight and true, avoiding the gruesome rough and can contest in the ugliest of weather conditions that is likely to lift the Claret Jug on Sunday!
