Host, Tiger Woods, will be desperate to clock up a win at the AT&T National in Bethesda this week, an event held two weeks shy of the oldest and arguably, most prestigious, major in world golf, the British Open.

Woods has failed to make an impact at the two US-based grand slams this year and will want to fire on all cylinders at the Congressional Country Club in preparation for an Open Championship challenge in the UK.

He, together with 119 invitees, including British world number three, Paul Casey, current US Open champion, Lucas Glover and three-time major winner, Vijay Singh, will be vying for a slice of the $6m purse and the 500 FedEx Cup points allocated to the National winner.

Woods, as usual, is the bookmaker’s favourite to win this week in Maryland, with William Hill posting outright odds of 15/8 on the world number one. Americans, Jim Furyk and Hunter Mahan share odds of 16/1, with Paul Casey and defending champion, Anthony Kim at 20/1 apiece.
