Just when we thought there was literally no-one out there to challenge the unequivocal ‘Master of the Greens’, the indefatigable Tiger Woods, along comes a very accomplished surprise package in the form of 23 year old, Anthony Kim.
Duo of Wins on the PGA
Kim is one of only four players who have pulled off multiple wins on the PGA Tour this year - and he is in great company - Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson and Kenny Perry are the others! The young man from Los Angeles has rocketed up the Official World Golf Ranking to number 14 and with his recent win at the AT & T National, he is knocking hard at the door of the elite and elusive Top 10.
He started playing professionally on the PGA Tour in 2006 and has already racked up a number of top ten finishes but what is arguably his most valuable asset at this time in his career, is his awesome timing - he has the opportunity of making a name for himself without having to dodge the ominous shadow of the incumbent world number one, Tiger Woods, who is out for the remainder of the year due to injury! Both his triumphs - at Wachovia and the AT & T National - were when Woods was not able to compete!
The Royal Birkdale Challenge
Kim is off to Royal Birkdale next week in an attempt to claim the Claret Jug and his maiden majors title and judging by his current form, he may just be able to pull it off.
Bookmakers, betfair, are not quite as bullish about the possibility of Anthony Kim claiming his first major - he is quoted at 55 to win compared to that of the favourite, Spain’s Sergio Garcia, who is quoted at 11.5!
