EPL - Manchester United versus Newcastle at Old Trafford

Manchester United men will have to up the ante at Old Trafford on Sunday when they take on Newcastle in their opening match of the Premier League season. They have promised to ‘hit the ground running’ after a rather lacklustre performance against Portsmouth last week in the Community Shield clash. The Red Devils claimed the curtain raiser in penalties and did look a bit rusty at times but they were, after all, without Rooney and Ronaldo!

With Kevin Keegan’s return,Newcastle will be hoping to entertain the crowds again with the swashbuckling type of football they so enjoyed a couple of seasons ago and if striker, Michael Owen and midfielder, Nicky Butt, can find some early form, then Newcastle may be able to improve their head-to-head stats against Sir Alex Ferguson’s charges.

Red Devils on Top
As we all know, the Red Devils are by far the most consistent and successful performers of the English Premier League and they have beaten Newcastle five times in the past six outings, so it’s going to take some formidable football to silence the crowds at Old Trafford!

Newcastle ended last season on a low note - they were walloped 3-1 by Everton - so Keegan will be hopeful his team can start off with some impressive action.

Sports bookmaker, bodog, is currently offering the following odds on a win at Old Trafford on Sunday - Manchester United 1.25; Newcastle 10.50 and a draw 5.40.
