This year, Finn, Kimi Raikkonen, is only seven points adrift of the current leader in the Formula One points standings, BMW-Sauber’s Robert Kubica, and he is supremely confident he can make it two in a row at Magny-Cours on Sunday.
Raikkonen will have fond memories of the 4.4km track as it was the venue of his memorable turn around in the 2007 season. He had arrived at the circuit a full 26 points behind McLaren driver, Lewis ‘bump’ Hamilton, but with some crisp handling he managed to make it to the top of the podium.
From then on in there was no stopping the fiery Ferrari driver - he pulled off a successive win in Britain and by the end of the year had knocked Hamilton firmly from his throne to claim the coveted title by a single point!
Penalty May Prove too Much for Lewis
Lewis Hamilton will surely be ruing his collision in Montreal a fortnight ago as he is now facing a 10-place penalty on the starting grid, and even with his buckets of talent it seems unlikely he will be able to triumph at the French.
Betfred are offering the following odds for an outright win at what could possibly be the final Formula One showdown at the Magny-Cours track - Kimi Raikkonen 11/10, Felipe Massa 2/1, Robert Kubica 6/1 and Lewis Hamilton 8/1.
