Formula One headliner, Lewis Hamilton, is playing down the possibility of a third consecutive win in Hungary on Sunday but pundits are confident the popular 23-year-old can bring home the Budapest title for the second year in a row.
Poll Position Row favoured Hamilton
Hamilton had to tussle with his then team mate, Fernando Alonso, for poll position in very controversial circumstances last year but showed his finesse by winning the traditionally difficult race under a storm cloud that eventually burst leaving Alonso out of the McLaren team and Hamilton promoted to premier driver!
Hamilton has caused a veritable furore of postive sentiment from both his team and his multitude of fans with his awesome display of driving recently, particularly at Silverstone where he gave both rivals and enthusiasts a lesson on how to manoeuvre in wet conditions!
Hungaroring Notoriously Difficult
The Hungarian track is notorious for its tight and twisting corners that make overtaking extremely difficult, so qualifying is absolutely crucial and over the years the Budapest-based race has dished up some real surprises including Jenson Button’s unexpected triumph in 2006!
Hamilton, the current Formula One Championship leader, is now four points clear of his nearest rival, Felipe Massa, largely due to his wins at Silverstone and Hockenheim and with a third win at Hungaroring, any challenge to his number one slot may well be a little too late.
It is worth remembering, though, the last McLaren driver to win three races in a row was Mika Hakkinen in 1997/98 but let’s face it, Hamilton is right up there with the Finn!
Betfred, premier sports bookmaker, has no doubt Hamilton can make it a double in Budapest and has quoted the following odds for an outright win - Hamilton 11/10, Raikkonen 9/4 and Massa 10/3.
