- Six Nations Tips
At present six stadiums are used to host Six Nations championship games. These include:
The Millennium Stadium: One of the most technologically sophisticated stadiums in the world was commissioned by the Welsh Rugby Union for the 1999 Rugby World Cup. When Wales plays, the stadium is awash with red and filled with the sound of 72,000 Welsh supporters singing traditional Welsh hymns.
Murrayfield: Sometimes described as ‘the Castle’, Edinburgh’s Murrayfield stadium has been the graveyard for many a team’s grand slam or Six Nations title aspirations. The stadium is packed for Six Nations encounters by one of the most vocal crowds in world rugby.
Twickenham: Refurbishments have led to the grand old home of English rugby being transformed into one of the most impressive high capacity stadiums in Europe. England is virtually unbeatable when playing at home, and the stadium rings with the chorus of Swing Low Sweet Chariot during every England game.
Aviva Stadium: Ireland play their home matches at the new Aviva Stadium. After a short stint at Croke Park, where they broke Irish rugby union attendance records several times, Ireland returned to the former site of Landsdowne road and took up residence in the modern Aviva Stadium.
Stade de France: The Stade de France towers over the suburb of St. Denis in Paris, and packs in almost 80,000 French supporters for every Six Nations match. The stadium offers a taste of Parisian style in general, and inspires the French team to play their finest rugby.
Stadio Olimpico: In 2011 the Italian Rugby Board announced that the Italian team would move to Rome’s Stadio Olimpico for future Six Nations tournaments. With the popularity of rugby on the rise in Italy, the Stadio Olimpico will allowed tens of thousands of additional fans to view the Italian team in action in Rome.
