2008 Scottish Open Results

Northern Ireland’s Graeme McDowell claimed the Scottish Open title at Loch Lomond with a very impressive run of three consecutive birdies on the back nine, denying Englishman, Simon Khan, a slice of the big time.

Possible place in the Ryder Cup team for McDowell

Mc Dowell shot a 3-under 68 to claim the kudos and possibly cement his place in the Ryder cup team to take on the Americans in Valhalla later in the year. The man from Portrush was on top of his game for the majority of the tournament and richly deserved his maiden 2008 title.

As the tournament reached its climax, it did look as though Khan would power through to win the celebrated European Tour title. Leading by a slender two shots, Khan slipped dramatically at the 12th, carding a double bogey, allowing the man from the north a sniff at victory. McDowell took full advantage of Khan’s monumental error and birdied three consecutive holes with sublime ease to win by two strokes with a total 13-under, 271.

South African, James Kingston, who shot a very respectable 66 on the final day, came in second whilst Aussie, Richard Green and Spain’s ‘matador of the fairways’, Miguel Angel Jimenez, tied for third place with 69′s apiece.

Disappointed Khan secures berth at the British Open

Khan, who led the charge for most of the final day, finished fifth with an ordinary 72 but the fact he had secured a berth at the elite British Open to be played at Royal Birkdale must have lifted his spirits!
