The Ribblesdale Stakes

The Ribblesdale Stakes is a group 2 thoroughbred flat race run during the course of the annual Royal Ascot Meeting. Entry to the Ribblesdale Stakes is restricted to 3 year old fillies and mares, who race a distance of 1 mile 4 furlongs over Royal Ascot during the race.

The Ribblesdale Stakes attracts entries who have previously raced in the Epsom Oaks or are entered into the Irish Oaks.

Ribblesdale Stakes History and Winners

The Ribblesdale Stakes, named in honour of Thomas Lister, 4th Baron Ribblesdale, was first run at the 1919 Royal Ascot Meeting. The race was originally open to 3 and 4 year old fillies and raced over a mile.

The Ribblesdale Stakes is targeted by some of the wealthiest stables in flat racing, and tends to go to the biggest names in the sport. In the last decade, Saeed bin Suroor has been the most successful trainer, schooling three Ribblesdale Stakes winners.
