Named after the historic village of Wolferton near the Royal residence in Sandringham, the Wolferton Handicap Stakes was added to the Royal meeting in 2002, when it was expanded from a four to a five day meeting.

Barbadian trainer Sir Michael Stoute has built up a good record in the Wolferton Handicap Stakes, winning the race once and placing his horses on three other occasions during the past five years.
