The Queen’s Vase

The Queen’s Vase is a group 3 thoroughbred race run at the annual Royal Ascot meeting in June. The race is one of the lengthier run at the festival, covering a distance of 2 miles. Entry to the Queen’s Vase is restricted to 3 year old thoroughbreds.

Queen’s Vase History and Winners

The Queen’s Vase was first run in 1838 in honour of Queen Victoria. The name of the event was changed to the King’s Vase in 1908, before reverting back to the Queen’s Vase in 1960. The Queen’s Vase was a listed event for most of its history, and was only upgraded to group 3 status in 1991.

Trainer Mark Johnston has demonstrated an uncanny ability to train Queen’s Vase winners, winning the race four times during the past decade. Sir Michael Stoute and Saeed bin Suroor have both achieved two race titles during this time.

Queen’s Vase Betting Tips

• Over 70% of Queen’s Vase winners have been priced lower than 7/1, while only 3 runners priced over 16/1 have placed in the race since the turn of the Millenium.
• It’s a good idea to back the larger stables in the Queen’s Vase betting markets, as trainers from smaller stables rarely win the event.
