Originally known as the Alexandra Stakes, the Queen Alexandra Stakes was first run in 1834. Prior to 2004, the Queen Alexandra Stakes was run over a distance of 2 miles and 6 furlongs, and the current race distance was introduced in 2005.

The Queen Alexandra Stakes has produced a number of multiple winners during the past two decades, including Sir Michael Stoute’s Cover Up, who won the race in 2002 and 2003. Stoute has also achieved a number of placed finishes in recent years.
