The Chesham Stakes

The Chesham Stakes is a class 1 listed thoroughbred race that forms part of the annual Royal Ascot meeting held in June at Ascot Racecourse. The event is raced over a distance of 7 furlongs. Entry to the Chesham Stakes is restricted to 2 year old runners sired by thoroughbreds that have won over distances greater than 10 furlongs.

Chesham Stakes History and Winners

Named after the 3rd Baron of Chesham, the Chesham Stakes was first run in 1921. The race was originally run over a distance of 6 furlongs, but this was changed to 7 furlongs in 1997.

Mark Johnston has a good record in the Chesham Stakes, having achieved 3 wins and 2 shows since the turn of the Millenium. Barry Hills has also experienced his runners performing well in the Chesham Stakes in recent years, winning the race once and also achieving a show and a placed finish.
