Friday provided one of the rare moments in racing where the final results matched the pecking order in the betting markets, as Yeats won his fourth Gold Cup, followed home by Patkai and Geordieland.
Can lightning strike twice in today’s Coronation Stakes? Looking at a field packed with real class, one would think not.
The 1 mile fillies’ highlight of the Royal Meeting features a battle between the winners of the English, Irish and French 1,000 Guineas in the form of Ghanaati, Again and Elusive Wave.
It’s the French 1,000 Guineas winner, Elusive Wave, who has caught the attention of punters and now heads the betting markets at 11/4. Some think Ghanaati was flattered by results at Newmarket, but she remains priced ahead of Again in the Coronation Stakes betting markets.
Our Coronation Stakes Tip…
Again provides the best value of the three Guineas winners at odds of 4/1, and is an automatic selection for an each-way bet. We think Elusive Wave might be overpriced, and that Ghanaati isn’t getting enough credit for her performance at Newmarket and deserves backing as an outright winner.
Elusive Wave could be thrown into the mix in the forecast markets, and would provide a respectable return in the place betting markets as a strong contender to finish the Coronation Stakes in the top 3. Rainbow View is an interesting prospect in this race, as she remains a highly rated filly despite her inability to make a group 1 breakthrough a 3-year-old. At 7/1 she’s not bad value for an each-way bet.
