Poker Overview

Available in both download and instant play modes, Party Poker is one of the largest and best known poker sites on the internet. Although Party Poker has a massive media profile and sponsors some of the biggest live tournaments in the world, the poker room actually lags somewhat behind its competitors, particularly when it comes to player incentives.

Game Play: 6/10

Game play at the Party Poker tables can sometimes be frustrating. The graphics are unremarkable, with players represented by avatars sitting around a brightly lit green felt poker table. Animation and speed of play tends to be quite slow, with deals taking far longer than necessary.

Another significant problem that will face intermediate level players in particular is the abundance of inexperienced players on the tables. The poor knowledge of poker leads to numerous bad beat situations when players don’t adhere to the basic ‘rules’ of betting on good hands.

Conversation in the casino can also become aggressive, and there is no mechanism in place to filter out the comments of specific players. Your only option is to mute the entire room.

Tables: 10/10

Party Poker makes up for ground lost in game play by providing a truly massive selection of tables. You can play poker in any conceivable format, and the popularity of the site means you’ll rarely struggle to find a table with sufficient participants for a good game.

Tournament play is excellent, with dozens of daily freerolls for novices, massive satellite tournaments and daily cash prize tournaments with buy-ins to suit any budget.

Poker Bonuses: 2/10

It is particularly in the bonus department where Party Poker seems to surrender ground. The media generated popularity of the site translates into an absence of sign-up incentives, meaning you won’t earn matched bonuses for your first deposit.

Players are rewarded with ‘Party Points’ for game play, but these accumulate very slowly for any players not playing at the higher-stakes tables.

Overall Rating

There is relatively little available at Party Poker to back up the company’s huge media presence. Party Poker should appeal mostly to either novices, who can benefit from numerous freerolls, or to experienced players who can use the tournaments to qualify for major poker events. Gambling Guru rates Party Poker: 6/10
