Jerry Yang Bio:

Jerry Yang was born in Laos, Cambodia. During the communist takeover of the 1970s, Yang’s family fled to Thailand, where they lived in a refugee camp for four years. In 1979 Jerry Yang moved to the United States with his family.

After school Jerry Yang attended the Loma Linda University in Los Angeles, where he gained qualifications in social work and health psychology. He worked as a psychologist until winning the World Series of Poker, then quit his career to pursue full-time participation in the professional poker circuit.

Jerry Yang Poker Career:

Jerry Yang only started playing poker in 2005, and learned to play in recreational cash games and online tournaments. In 2007 Yang won an entry into the 2007 World Series of Poker main event with a $225 entry at a casino in Temecula, California.

Yang excelled at the 2007 World Series of Poker, riding his luck while playing a very aggressive game. Despite entering the final tables as the 8th ranked chip holder, Jerry Yang was able to build a massive stack towards the final rounds, when he edged out his final opponent, Tuan Lam, with a pair of 8s to win the tournament and the $8,25 million main prize.

Jerry Yang puts his training as a psychologist to good use when playing poker. He studies his opponents carefully, watching out for signs of weakness that betray weaker hands. Once he has a weak hand pinned down, Jerry Yang uses aggressive play to force his opponent out of the game.
