Eric Seidel Bio:
Eric Seidel started out his gaming career playing professional tournament backgammon. Tiring of backgammon and the nomadic life of a professional gambler, Seidel began playing the stock market, working as a stockbroker by day whilst playing poker in the evening at the Mayfair.
Eric Seidel Poker Career:
In 1987 the stock market crashed, leaving Eric Seidel unemployed and in search of an income. Seidel turned immediately to the one thing he knew best, and committed himself to developing his poker game. In 1988 Eric Seidel made it to the final table of the World Series of Poker at first attempt, losing to Johnny Chan in the final hand.
During the next four years Eric Seidel struggled to make an impression on the Las Vegas tournament poker scene, cashing only twice and returning to Wall Street to work at a brokerage.
In 1992 Seidel’s fortunes changed when he won his first World Series of Poker title. The World Series of Poker win re-energized Seidel’s game and he began playing more regularly, cashing often and picking up a clutch of top tournament wins.
Since turning professional Eric Seidel has amassed one of the biggest fortunes in the game, earning over $8 million during his 20 year long poker career in live tournament play alone. He’s no spent force either, with his biggest win, the $967,390 Foxwoods Poker Classic, achieved in April of 2008.
Eric Seidel Playing Style
Eric Seidel favours a low-key approach to playing poker, and prefers the Hold ‘em format. He does not back an aggressive game, and instead relies on patience and analysis of different situations to achieve his wins, allowing his opponents space to make mistakes and eliminate themselves. One of the least pretentious players on the circuit, Seidel is a perennial favourite with fans of the game.
