Most pundits believe there are only two class acts for Saturday’s Blue Square Nassau Stakes, the premier group one race for three-year-old fillies and mares, and they are Jim Bolger’s Lush Lashes and Aidan O’Brien’s Halfway to Heaven!
Lush Lashes Proven at the Distance
Lush Lashes has already proven her pedigree at the distance - 1 mile 2 furlongs - by thrashing her nearest opponent in the Coronation Stakes at Royal Ascot in June, her last outing until the Glorious Goodwood Festival this week-end. She also impressed at York not so long ago when she claimed the Musidora Stakes by a full five lengths.
Premier trainer, Bolger, has been particularly patient with the promising filly and will be aiming for his third Nassau Stakes victory. His equine charge, Alexander Goldrun, claimed the title in 2005 ridden by Kevin Manning, the man in the saddle again tomorrow, and in 1986, Park Express claimed the Stakes.
Successive Wins for Coolmore?
Trainer, Aidan O’Brien, has already come good at the Goodwood Festival - his champion thoroughbred, HenrytheNavigator, steered by none other than Johnny Murtagh, trounced the rest of the field in another sublime run at the Sussex Stakes earlier in the week and he must be feeling confident he can claim the second premier race of the five day meet!
O’Brien and the Coolmore Stud are aiming for a 25th Group 1 win with the three-year-old filly, Halfway to Heaven, and although it will be her first attempt at the distance, she did win the Irish One Thousand Guineas by a head at the Curragh earlier in the season. Last year, O’Brien’s Peeping Fawn, ridden by Murtagh crossed the line first.
Bookmaker, bluesq, has Lush Lashes at 7/4 and Halfway to Heaven at 4/1 to win the Nassau Stakes tomorrow.
