The 2010 David Nicholson Mares’ Hurdle is the final race of the day one of the 2010 Cheltenham Festival. The 2 mile 4 furlong race will blood the champion mare hurdler of the meeting.
2010 David Nicholson Mares Hurdle Race Favourites
1. Quevaga:
Quevaga heads the betting for the 2010 David Nicholson Mares’ Hurdle. She comes into the race with four places from five starts and has finished outside the places only twice in her career. Trading at close to evens at William Hill, the reigning champion (who won the 2009 edition of this race by 14 lengths) is a deserved favourite for Mares’ Hurdle victory despite having finished in 9th place in her last race.
2. Voler la Vedette
Irish raider Voler la Vedette represents Colm Murphy in the Mares Hurdle and comes into the race with four wins from her last four starts. Trading at 5/2 at William Hill, Voler la Vedette invites an outright back bet based on her scintillating form in recent races. The 2010 David Nicholson Mares’ Hurdle will mark the first time that Voler la Vedette has competed outside of Ireland.
3. No One Tells Me
No One Tells me is something of a dark horse in this race. She comes into the 2010 David Nicholson Mares Hurdle having placed in eight of her thirteen starts over hurdles. Her form hasn’t been of its best of late, with No One Tells Me last winning a race in July of last year. Her 14/1 price accurately suggests that she’s unlikely to surprise at Cheltenham on Tuesday.
Long Shots
Winners of the Mares Hurdle are generally priced below the 20/1 margin. We have found only one other likely contender at this pricing, and that is French raider, Sway. She’s fallen on her last two trips out, but has a record of six wins from nine starts if she can overcome the dent to her confidence created by the falls. At 20/1 she’s not a bad each-way option.
2010 David Nicholson Mares Hurdle Betting Tips
Trends in this race suggest that we should restrict our bets to the horses mentioned above. Quevaga’s price invites a lay bet at Betfair which shouldn’t cause too much damage if she arrives home in first place. If we were pushed to back an entry we’d go with a straight back bet on Voler la Vodette – she’s easily the form horse coming into this race.
