Thomas Brent “Boo” Weekley was born in Milton, Florida on 23 July 1973. His nickname “Boo” comes from cartoon character Boo-Boo Bear – Yogi Bear’s sidekick. He has won the Verizon Heritage Classic for a second time in 2008 becoming only the third player in the history of the event to win a consecutive title – other players to have achieved this are Payne Stewart and Davis Love III.

He took home the biggest pay cheque of his career after winning the 2008 Verizon Heritage Classic, a staggering $990,000 with total earnings standing at  $1,768,985.

The current tournament champion turned professional in 1997 and played on mini-tours until 2002, when he qualified for the PGA Tour.

Boo Weekley had a slow start to his professional career. After making the cut in only five of 24 events, he lost his Tour card. He then played the Nationwide Tour from 2003 to 2006, when he finished high enough to regain his PGA Tour card.

His first PGA Tour victory came in April at the 2007 Verizon Heritage, where he beat Ernie Els by just one shot. He did it again in 2008, sending his world golf rankings shooting up from 55 in 2007 to the top 25 in 2008.
