The Melling Chase is a grade 1 national hunt steeplechase run as part of the annual Grand National festival at Aintree. One of the highlights of the festival, the Melling Chase is run over a distance of 2 miles and 4 furlongs, with competitors required to clear sixteen fences during the race.
The Melling Chase is open to 5-year old and older chasers, and frequently attracts runners who participated in the Queen Mother Champion Chase at the Cheltenham Festival.

The Melling Chase was first run at the Aintree Grand National Festival in 2001.
The event draws a top quality field, and has been won by five Queen Mother Champion Chase winners, namely Remittance Man, Deep Sensation, Viking Flagship, Martha’s Son and double winner, Moscow Flyer.
A number of trainers have won the Melling Chase two years in succession, including Josh Gifford, David Nicholson, Howard Johnson, Arthur Moore and Jessica Harrington.
