The Aintree Hurdle is a grade 1 hurdle, raced in April at the annual Grand National Festival. The race is run over a distance of 2 miles and 4 furlongs, and features 11 hurdles.
The Aintree Hurdle is the most prestigious hurdles race run at the Grand National Festival. The race is open to 4-year old and older hurdlers, many of which have competed in the Champion Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival prior to the Aintree Hurdle.

The Aintree Hurdle has been raced since 1976. The race was originally run over a distance of 2 miles 5½ furlongs before the race distance was changed to 2 miles 4 furlongs in 1988.
A number of multiple winners have emerged from the Aintree Hurdle over the years with Morely Street setting the record for 4 consecutive victories between 1990 and 1993.
One of the most famous racehorses to have competed in, and won, the Aintree Hurdle is Istabraq, who won the 1999 Aintree Hurdle as part of an impressive winning streak during which he also won the Champion Hurdle 3 times.
