The 2009 Melling Chase is Friday’s 3:10 PM feature race from Aintree, and an opportunity to see the UK’s finest 2 mile specialists in action over the Aintree fences.

Voy por Ustedes
While immaculate chaser, Master Minded, will not be part of proceedings at Aintree today, there’s still plenty of quality left in the field, most notably defending champion Voy Por Ustedes, who beat Master Minded in the Melling Chase last year.

The ranks Alan King’s entry’s backers may be thinned somewhat after a disappointing performance at the Cheltenham Festival. Vor Por Ustedes was pulled out of the Queen Mother Champion Chase in favour of the Ryanair Chase, where he headed the betting markets as a strong favourite.

However, it was not to be for Voy Por Ustedes as Imperial Commander stole the limelight, leaving him to settle for second place two lengths back. That performance was nevertheless good enough to see King’s entry installed as the favourite in the Melling Chase betting markets.

The Field
Also in the cast today are a number of runners from both the Ryainair Chase and Queen Mother Champion Chase.

These include Champion Chase third place finisher, Petit Robin, who is priced a generous 11/1 in Bet365’s Melling Chase betting markets and Ryanair third place finisher Schindler’s Hunt.

Tidal Bay, a fourth place finisher at the Ryanair Chase, has been priced third in Bet365’s Melling Chase betting markets, with support most likely based on his victory in the Maghull Novices’ Chase at last year’s Aintree Festival.

Nacarat introduces an X factor into the 2009 Melling Chase. Tony George’s entry took down a big handicap at the Racing Post Chase in February, a win that has attracted strong support in antepost markets where he is priced second behind Voy Por Ustedes.
The odds for 3:10 MELLING CHASE GRADE 1 2m 4f are currently not available.
