Richmond Stakes
The Richmond Stakes is a Group 2 thoroughbred race run annually at the Glorious Goodwood Festival. Entry to the race is restricted to 2 year old colts, which race over a distance of 7 furlongs at Goodwood Racecourse.
The Richmond Stakes dates back to 1877 when the first race was held to honour the Duke of Richmond, who introduced racing to Goodwood. At the turn of the 19th century the Richmond Stakes had become one of the finest races in the United Kingdom, producing several Epsom Derby winners.
Richmond Stakes Betting Tips
- Real skill is required to pick the winner of the Richmond Stakes, as many of the entries offer little in terms of established track records.
- Part time punters are best advised to use the betting markets to guide their selections for the race, and may also consider using any free bets they have saved for a rainy day when making selections for this race.
Richmond Stakes Winners
Some of the United Kingdom’s top stables display their wares in the Richmond Stakes. In recent years, Peter Chapple Hyam has emerged as one of the most capable trainers of Richmond Stakes winners, by taking the race 3 times since 1995.
