Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe Betting Tips

Europe’s richest race, the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe is the only one of the French Classics to receive extensive coverage from the media in the United Kingdom and Ireland. The race is frequently targeted by racehorses that performed well in the English Classics, and as an end-of-season event, allows racing fans to carefully gauge the form of participating thoroughbreds.

As one of the unofficial championships of European thoroughbred racing, the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe will often pit racehorses with exceptional records against one another for the first time.

Whilst this complicates the task of comparing the ability of entries in the race, there are a couple of basic guidelines to follow when betting on the Prix de l‘Arc de Triomphe.

Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe Tips

  • The Prix de l‘Arc de Triomphe is open to thoroughbreds over the age of 3. Although older racehorses regularly compete in the race, it tends to be the 3 year olds who hold sway, as they currently hold a winning percentage of around 70%.
  • It is not unusual for winners of the English and Irish Classics to cross the channel for a tilt at one of the richest prizes in horseracing, but, French-bred racehorses have traditionally dominated proceedings. Trainer Andre Fabre’s entries are worthy of special consideration, given his impressive record in the race.
