Red Bull Racing F1 Team

The Red Bull racing team is one of two Formula One racing teams sponsored by the Austrian Red Bull beverage company. The team evolved from the Jaguar Racing Formula One team, which Red Bull famously purchased for $1 when Ford put the team on sale in 2004.

Headquarters: Milton Keynes, England
Engine: Renault RS27
Chassis: RB6
F1 Debut: 2005 Australian Grand Prix
Drivers: Sebastien Vettel, Mark Webber

Red Bull involvement in racing predates the launch of the Red Bull racing team, and includes previous sponsorship of the Sauber Formula One team, sponsorship of drivers and teams in the GP2 Series and the establishment of an academy for Formula One drivers.

History

The Red Bull racing team participated in its first full season in 2005, using the custom-built RB1 chassis with a Cotsworth engine. The team’s Formula One debut was unexpectedly successful, as it finished in the 7th place for the Constructors Championship, a vast improvement on the performance of Jaguar during the previous two seasons.

The Red Bull Racing team switched to Ferrari engines the following season, as Cotsworth withdrew from Formula One racing. The team continued to perform well, holding onto 7th position in the Constructors Championship, and achieving its first ever podium finish when David Coulthard finished the Monaco Grand Prix in 3rd place.

Red Bull racing continued to show promise as the team accumulated points consistently throughout the following season, despite only reaching the podium on one occasion. The team eventually finished the 2007 season in 5th place, driven by a steady improvement in the quality of the Red Bull racing car.

Red Bull produced its best Formula One season to date in 2009. The team helped driver Sebastien Vettel finish the season in second place in the Drivers Championship, winning six races. The team eventually finished the season in second place in the Constructors Championship.

Red Bull Racing in Formula One

Red Bull Racing recently signed the Concorde Agreement, pledging a long-term commitment to Formula One racing. The team’s progress in the sport has been rapid, and it has quickly established itself as one of the strongest racing teams not backed by a car manufacturer.

Red Bull Racing has also developed a reputation for slick marketing, and has allied itself to several major Hollywood motion pictures, building the team’s brand whilst assisting in the marketing of films like Star Wars and Superman.

The team has not developed without controversy, however, with some teams claiming that the use of the Scuderia Torro Rosso as a ‘B’ team not only gives the Red Bull team an unfair advantage in the Formula One Series, but also leads to violations of the laws governing the use of original chassis by each team.
