F1 Debut: 2010 Bahrain Grand Prix

Hispania Racing will make its debut in Formula One racing in 2010. The team is one of several beneficiaries of the cost-cutting exercises in the sport which have allowed a number of new teams to buy places in Formula One for the 2010 season.
Originally conceived by Adrián Campos in partnership with the Meta Image company, the team was taken over by José Ramón Carabante just prior to the start of the 2010 F1 season. The team will be based in Valencia, and will be the first Formula One team to capitalize on the strong following the sport enjoys in Spain.
History
Hispania Racing is the brainchild of Adrian Campos, a former Formula One driver who also competed in Formula Three and Formula 3000 racing during his career. Campos raced 21 times in an F1 car during the late 1980s, but left the sport without having made a substantial impact as a driver.
Campos began his career as a team manager in 1998, working for Nissan with his newly formed Campos Racing company. During this period he also served as a manager for Fernando Alonso. Campos Racing went on to achieved considerable success in GP2 racing, winning the 2008 Constructors Championship.
In 2009 Adrian Campos began distancing himself from his team’s activities in GP2 racing, and eventually sold Campos Racing’s stake in its team. Instead Campos began to focus on acquiring a place in Formula One racing, looking to buy out the assets of former F1 team, Super Aguri.
Hispania Racing in Formula One
Towards the end of the 2009 Formula One season, Campos Racing announced that it, in partnership Meta Image, would be one of the four new teams competing in Formula One racing during the 2010 season. Italian company Dallara was announced as the constructor for the team’s chassis, and it will use Cosworth engineers during its debut season, with a view to using Ferrari engines in 2011.
Just prior to the launch of the 2010 Formula One season major shareholder, José Ramón Carabante, assumed full control of the team, which had been struggling with financial problems up to that point. This event led to the replacement of Adrian Campos as team principal, and the rebranding of the team as Hispania Racing.
Hispania Racing will be something of a dark horse during its first season in Formula One racing. The team will benefit from its association with talented rookie, Bruno Senna, but there have been doubts over whether or not the team will be able to compete from the first race of the season.
