Vitantonia Liuzzi is an Italian racing driver who has been involved in the sport since 2006. Liuzzi’s career has been plagued by his affiliation to low-grade Formula One teams, which has directly impacted his performances. The Italian lost his seat as a front-line driver during the 2009 Formula One season. Towards the end of 2009 it was announced that Liuzzi would return to the drivers’ seat for Force India in 2010.

Vitantonio Luizzi began his racing career at the age of 9 in kart racing. Liuzzi won the Italian Kart Championship in 1993 at the age of 12, and would go on to perform well in the sport, with his kart career culminating in a title win in the 2001 World Karting Championship.
Liuzzi graduated to Formula racing the same year, taking part in Formula Renault and Formula Three racing with mixed results. By 2003 Liuzii was racing in F3000, and claimed his maiden Formula title in 2004 with the Arden team.
After rumours had connected Liuzzi with a possible role at Ferrari, the young driver instead ended up finding a place with Red Bull as a test driver. Liuzzi was promoted to the drivers seat for four races during his debut season, scoring a point on debut.
In 2006 Liuzzi was awarded a spot in Red Bull’s ‘B team’, Toro Rosso. The Italian went on to spend two seasons with the team, and struggled to obtain results, completing his time with the team with a paltry 4 points to show for his efforts.
In 2008 Vitantonio Liuzzi was replaced by Sebastien Bourdais at Toro Rosso. Liuzzi subsequently secured a place as the test driver for the Force India team. 2009 saw Liuzzi return to the drivers seat, as he replaced Giancarlo Fisichella at Force India following Fisichella’s move to Ferrari.
Liuzzi went on to compete in four races, but failed to score a point for his team. Fortunately, a promising performance at the 2009 Italian Grand Prix had convinced Force India that their driver merited a permanent seat for the team. As a result, Liuzzi will race alongside Adrian Sutil for the duration of the 2010 Formula One season.
