Glock’s career in racing began as an amateur Kart driver at the age of 15. The young driver’s talent was obvious at an early age, as he won several Kart Championships before graduating to Formula 3 racing. He made his Formula One debut as a test driver for Jordan in 2004, before joining the Champ Car series in the United States the following year.

After winning the Rookie of the Year award at the Champ Car series, Glock returned to Europe to take the step up to GP2 racing. It took Glock a year to adapt to European racing, finishing his first GP2 season in fourth place. The following year he won the GP2 series, which earned him an invitation to join several Formula One teams.

After protracted negotiations, Glock eventually signed up with Toyota for his first full season in Formula One. Glock went on to perform impressively in his first season in Formula One, achieving a podium finish at the Hungarian Grand Prix, along with 5 additional points finishes.

However, Glock’s 2008 season was defined by the final race, where an unusual tire choice caused him to conceded a place to Lewis Hamilton in the final lap of the Brazilian Grand Prix, allowing Hamilton to take the Drivers Championship from Felipe Massa by a single point.

2009 saw Glock benefit from a relatively competitive Toyota car. The German finished on the podium twice during the season, and completed the year in the top ten in the Drivers Championship. Towards the end of the season Toyota announced that it would be departing the sport, ending Glock’s relationship with the team. The German was subsequently signed by Virgin racing to spearhead its first year in Formula One.
